The customized work I do combines elements of trigger point therapy, myofascial release, facilitated stretching, and the gliding, stripping and kneading techniques often associated with Swedish Massage. Each session is tailored to your body’s particular needs on that day. All sessions are done on a massage table, with clients undressed to the limit of their comfort and draped during the entire session. Oil/Cream is used for many techniques.
Sports Massage is a term that’s used to describe a range of different treatments aimed at preparing an athlete for an event, helping the recover from an event, and maintaining performance levels during a season. Sports massage techniques work to clean out fatigued tissue and bring healing cells to muscle bellies, break up adhesions, minimize scar tissue, relax muscle spasms and optimize contractile strength and reactivity.
Deep Tissue Massage is a term that describes any modality that intends to affect soft tissues through deep pressure applied to muscle bellies, ligaments, and tendons. Typically it’s used as a way to differentiate Western work from spa massage or Eastern modalities like Reiki, Shiatsu, and Thai Massage. Sports massage, Myofascial Release, and Swedish massage could all be incorporated into a deep tissue massage.
Fascia is a connective tissue that wraps around muscle fibers, muscle bundles, blood vessels and nerves and separates what it enfolds from the tissue surrounding it. When fascia is healthy and free of adhesions it allows adjacent tissues to glide past each other unencumbered. Over time tissues accrue small and not so small injuries that are healed with scar tissue which binds fascia to adjacent tissue and causes abrasive spots along the surface of tissues moving past each other. Myofascial Release gently but insistently works to smooth and release adhesions, leading to greater freedom of movement and fewer injuries.
